Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 14) — Outgoing senators Francis Escudero and Loren Legarda are slated to hold new government posts after tallying comfortable leads in their respective local election bids.

Escudero on Tuesday was proclaimed as the new Sorsogon governor, winning by a wide margin with 303,960 votes, according to the official tally of the local board of canvassers.

PDP-Laban’s Bladi Frivaldi came in second with 31,867 votes, while Redentor Guyala of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas got 2,985 votes.

Meanwhile, Senator Loren Legarda is likewise expected to clinch a seat at the House of Representatives with her comfortable lead in the congressional race.

With over 99 percent of votes canvassed, Legarda garnered 198,793 votes to lead the battle for the Antique representative post against Exequiel Javier.

Escudero, whose term in the upper chamber ends in June, also previously served as first district representative of Sorsogon.

This is a developing story.
