Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 5) — The four-month closure of Marcos Bridge at the boundary of Marikina City and Pasig City has been pushed back by a week from this Saturday to May 11.

The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) decided to delay the closure of the eastbound portion of the bridge, part of Marcos Highway that stretches from Katipunan in Quezon City to Antipolo City, as the private contractor is not yet ready to rehabilitate the bridge.

“Private contractors have yet to open an intersection for trucks traversing the area; install traffic signal for trucks from Libis going to Katipunan in Quezon City; open a slot at the median island for eastbound vehicular traffic or vehicles from Cubao to Antipolo and install all signage informing the public of the project,” the MMDA said Thursday in a statement.

The MMDA said it has given the private contractor a week to complete all these.

The MMDA is closing off the bridge, where at least 3,000 vehicles ply every hour, to give way to its “long overdue” rehabilitation.

Once closed, vehicles going to Antipolo can take the westbound lane of the bridge, while vehicles heading to Cubao in Quezon City can use the service road in front of SM Marikina.

The MMDA has also provided alternative routes to motorists:
