Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 7) — President Rodrigo Duterte has signed a law on energy efficiency and conservation.

Under Republic Act 11285, the Department of Energy (DOE) will prescribe “energy labels” for products, devices and equipment, and come up with am energy efficiency rating and labeling system.

The law, called Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act, seeks to institutionalize and implement energy efficiency and saving plans, as well as promote the development and use of renewable energy.

An Inter-agency Energy Efficiency and Conservation Committee will be created to evaluate and approve energy efficiency projects, and provide direction in the implementation of the Government Energy Management Program.

The DOE will craft the implementing rules and regulations within six months after the law’s effectivity.

The law was signed on April 12, but a copy was released only Thursday.
