14 detainees escape from Sulu jail

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 16) — Fourteen detainees escaped from a detention cell in Jolo, Sulu on Sunday in a jailbreak which left three of the escapees killed, one injured, and ten at large.

Sources from the military and police said fourteen escapees broke out of the detention cell at around 1:25 a.m. at the Jolo MPS Detention Cell, Marina St. Brgy Walled City, Jolo, Sulu.

From the fourteen, three were killed by responding jail guards while one was wounded during hot pursuit.

The three killed were identified as Julbig Alinjani, Budda Basali, and Midzfar A. Sabli, while the injured detainee was identified as Gummi J. Maimbung.

The remaining ten at large are Makrim J. Habbisi, Alsimar A. Basali, Nasir S. Maldam, Albin A. Alibasa, Julhaber H. Sariol, Benjie L. Pandoga, Mustafa A. Sarapuddin, Haber S. Kasim, Benjamin Baker, and Tano W. Hadjula.

The Sulu Provincial Police Office is conducting pursuit operations along with the military.

The military says most of the escapees face drug-related charges.
