Cagayan de Oro (CNN Philippines, October 12) — Fire gutted at least 30 houses in two villages in Cagayan de Oro City on Wednesday.

Senior Fire Officer 4 Arnulfo Nabua pegged the damage at roughly P1.6 million.

The fire hit barangays 22 and 26 at around 3:30 pm. It was declared under control 4:36 p.m.

Investigators are still determining the cause of fire.

Nabua said they had difficulty getting to the area because of narrow roads. He said the fire spread fast as the houses were close to each other and made of flammable materials.

Barangay 26 chairman Alexander dela Cerna said the owner of the house where the fire allegedly started was reportedly not around.

"Dili pa nato masuta kung kinsa ang nabilin kay ang ingon sa silingan nila, wala gyuy tao sa ilang balay" dela Cerna said.

The victims are temporarily staying at the Corrales Elementary School.
