Iloilo City (CNN Philippines, October 31) — Iloilo City Mayor Jed Mabilog has been dismissed effective Monday afternoon.

Mabilog's dismissal was served by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) through the Office of the Ombudsman, at around 12.35 p.m.

The dismissal is based on the Ombudsman's decision in OMB-V-A-14-0460 for Dishonesty and Grave Misconduct filed by former Iloilo provincial administrator Manuel "Boy" Mejorada sometime in September 2014.

Mabilog was not in his office, so his legal counsel Joenar Pueblo along with his spokesperson Mark Piad received the order from DILG-6 Regional Director Anthony Nuyda in the presence of DILG-Iloilo City director Ferdinand Panes.

According to Piad, the former mayor is currently "out of the country."

The Mabilog family considers the dismissal as "bad news." Mabilog's younger brother and executive assistant Jay Victor said, the dismissal is "bad news" for their family.

"We are still hopeful that the transition will unburden his beleaguered brother. Since the transition took place this week, at least it will lessen the burden on the mayor and to the family," he explained.

Espinosa said he will continue the good things that Mabilog have started.

"If there are new things to be done, we will do it. What's important is we serve the people well," Espinosa said.

In the August 29 decision of Ombudsman Prosecution Officer Rachel Cariaga-Favila, Mabilog failed to prove that the ₱8.98-million increase in his net worth from 2012 to 2013, as shown by his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN), was not questionable.

Mabilog had submitted proof on the "lawful source" of his wife's income in Canada from 2007 to 2009 and from 2010 to 2012, but failed to give proof of her income for 2013.

He also failed to submit proof of income from business interests he declared in his SALN.

Mabilog has also been a target of President Rodrigo Duterte's tirades, after the President accused him of being linked to drugs. Duterte admitted he ordered the operations against Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog, and said that Mabilog is next.
