Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 23) — One person was killed while two others went missing after a three-ton capacity vessel sank in waters off Bonbon, Panukulan in Quezon province Saturday morning.

The incident was reported at around 10 to 10:30 a.m., an initial incident report by Panukulan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Managment Office (MDRRMO) officer Gereme Erracho said. Nine people were rescued from the incident, he added.

The vessel was on its way to Infanta, Quezon from Sitio Bungliw in Panukulan. Erracho said the strong winds and current may have caused it to sink.

"The place is perilous due to its location," he said, based on information from members of the rescue team and barangay officials monitoring the situation.

Erracho said he requested an immediate search and rescue operation after a concerned citizen called them about the incident.

The mishap comes just two days after another vessel, the MV Mercraft 3 sank in waters between Dinahican, Quezon province and Polillo Island, killing five people.
