Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental (CNN Philippines, May 22) — A former public prosecutor was shot dead by four unidentified assailants Tuesday.

Police identified the victim as Atty. Geronimo S. Marabe, Jr.

He was rushed to Faith Hospital in Ozamiz City, but was later declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

A statement from Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said he was deeply saddened and troubled by the killings of Justice prosecutors.

But instead of these events bringing fear among our members, this will serve as a challenge for us to be more vigilant against those with bad intentions and who wish harm upon society.]

Philippine National Police (PNP) Spokesperson C/Supt. John Bulalacao said Marabe served as a public prosecutor for several cases involving the Parojinogs of Ozamiz.

Ozamiz City Mayor Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr. was alleged to be a narcopolitician. He and several others were killed in a bloody crackdown by police officials in Ozamiz City in July 2017.

Initial investigation revealed the Marabe was inside his white Toyota Fortuner SUV when the incident happened.

Superintendent Lemuel Gonda, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office in Northern Mindanao, said 13 calibre .45 bullets were recovered at the crime scene.

An investigation is underway to determine the motive of the fiscal's killing.
