After two games, GlobalPort decided to replace import Patrick O'Bryant.

(CNN Philippines) — GlobalPort Batang Pier have parted ways with import Patrick O’Bryant, the team announced in a statement Monday (May 11).

The 7-foot O’Bryant led GlobalPort to a 2-0 start in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors’ Cup, but that didn’t help him dodge the scythe of elimination.

The former Boston Celtics cager averaged 13 points and 17 rebounds in two outings with the Batang Pier.

“Despite his well-executed plays that brought GlobalPort its 2-0 lead, he does not fit with the team’s system,” the statement from the team read.

“We are appreciative of Patrick’s contribution, but a long term vision for the betterment of the team takes precedence.”

With O’Bryant out, GlobalPort will field in Steve Thomas.

Thomas, who will serve as stand-in import while GlobalPort awaits for Jarrid Famous, last played for the Asean Basketball League (ABL) champions Hi-Tech Bangkok City.

He also played with GlobalPort’s Stanley Pringle with the Indonesia Warriors.
