Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — The University of the Philippines (UP) fell short in capturing this year's University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Cheerdance title.

UP team captain Cam Lagmay felt that her squad's performance was flawless from start to finish.

"I was so shocked kasi after performing, I already knew that we were going to be number one," she said.

"I know we did a perfect run and a perfect routine."

The senior student was clueless with the results where majority of those who witnessed the highly-anticipated spectacle thought they made a strong case in taking home the crown.

"We're the only school that had zero deductions. That's why it took us a so long to react when the announcement of winners happened."

UP placed third behind University of Sto. Tomas and three-peat champion National University.

"We're very proud of our team and we know we set the standards as soon as we stepped on the mats."

With the overflowing support coming from their fans, Lagmay said that it will be easier to overcome the disappointing setback.

"The UP community is so supportive. I'm sure we'll be able to get over it with their support."
