Dustin Johnson will take the place of Jason Day in a charity event in the Philippines.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — World No. 2 golfer Dustin Johnson will replace Jason Day for an 18-hole stroke play charity match against World No. 3 Rory McIlroy on November 29 at the Pradera Golf Course in Lubao, Pampanga.

Day pulled out from the event as he continues to recover from a back injury which hindered his season.

“I am very excited for this match and honored to be invited to play for charity," the 32-year-old Johnson said in a statement. "With Jason the hometown favorite in this match, I am happy to replace him.”

Johnson recently earned his first PGA of America Player of the Year Award and the Vardon Trophy.

McIlroy expressed his disappointment on Day's predicament but is looking forward to meeting Johnson on the field.

"I'm sorry Jason can't make it to the Philippines this time but delighted Dustin is stepping in for a very worthy cause and what promises be a great head-to-head match,” McIlroy said in a statement.

Event organizers have yet to release ticket details of the event.
