Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — The Star Hotshots ended the elimination round of the 2017 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup on a strong note.

Star dismantled the Mahindra Floodbuster, 124-87, on Wednesday evening at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Allein Maliksi exploded off the bench for the Hotshots with 33 points on 11-of-14 shooting and three rebounds.

With the win, Star moves closer to snagging the second spot with a twice-to-beat advantage going into the quarterfinals.

But for them to secure the second seed, the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters must defeat Alaska Aces.

Paul Lee chipped in 16 points, five assists, and three rebounds for the Hotshots who improved their record to 7-4.

Alex Mallari and Nico Salva each had 15 markers for the Floodbuster. They concluded the All-Filipino conference with a 3-8 slate.
