Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Sad news for the University of the Philippines (UP) community.

Graduating libero Princess Gaiser is out for the remainder of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament after suffering a left anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear.

UP Lady Maroons team manager Cecile Ronquillo confirmed the news to CNN Philippines.

“ACL tear. For surgery on Monday under Dr. Jose Raul Canlas. Out for the season,” Ronquillo said.

Gaiser twisted her left knee while waiting to receive the ball in the first set against the NU Lady Bulldogs. She had to stretchered out of the playing court.

The Lady Maroons eventually bowed down to the Lady Bulldogs, 23-25, 17-25, 25-22, 25-18, 12-15, to succumb to their third straight defeat after a scorching 4-0 hot start.

In her official Instagram account, Gaiser is saddened with the fact that she has ended her collegiate carrer without meeting her expectations as an athlete.

“I will do everything just to play this sport til I literally couldn't stand anymore," said Gaiser.

"It hurts me to think that I have left my UAAP volleyball career without meeting my expectations as a player."

Gaiser also suffered a back injury at the start of the season, which is why she missed the first two games of the Lady Maroons.

UP is currently in a four-way logjam for the third spot in the team standings with the FEU Lady Tamaraws, NU Lady Bulldogs, and UST Golden Tigresses at 4-3.

Gaiser is optimistic that her squad will continue to pursue their ultimate goal.

“The fight is not yet over!! My teammates will complete my dreams!! I know we can put up a fight because theres nowehere to go but UP,” she said on the same Instagram post.

Here's the schedule of the second round.
