Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 14) — Three wins in three nights.

The Philippine men's national basketball team faced its toughest opponent thus far in the South East Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) Championship but still registered a convincing 106-51 win over Malaysia on Sunday evening at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Andray Blatche and Troy Rosario led all players with 13 points each.

Though the Malaysians made the first bucket, Gilas went on a 36-17 tear in the opening quarter.

The Filipinos improved from then, blitzing Malaysia 25-9 in the second period to take a 35-point advantage going into the halftime break.

Malaysia, which dropped to 0-3, simply could not keep pace with the Filipinos in the second half.

Heng Yee Tong paced the visitors with 12 points.

Despite the comfortable win, Gilas head coach Chot Reyes said that there are still issues that the team needs to address moving forward.

“This team is a work in progress, that's going to come with time,” Reyes said. “We still need to whip the ball around a lot quicker.”

The Philippines will rest in Day 4 of the tournament, and will return to action on Tuesday when they take on Thailand also at the Big Dome.
