Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 20) — Ateneo de Manila University suffers another blow in its quest for volleyball dominance as star player Michelle Morente will no longer be on the Lady Eagles lineup next season.

Morente, who was supposed to be an incoming senior this school year, was "ineligible to enrol" as she was unable to meet academic requirements, said Ateneo de Manila University's Assistant Athletic Director for Operations, Erika Dy.

"She is no longer with the Ateneo. She is ineligible to enroll," Dy said in a text message to CNN Philippines on June 19.

"It is our policy that all our players have to be able to keep up with academic requirements and being unable to do so has consequences on their other activities," she added.

This is the second time in three years that Morente faced academic problems in the Ateneo.

According to Dy, the university has a minimum grade point average of 2.0 to be able to move from one year to the next.

The 22-year-old opposite spiker was integral to the Katipunan-based squad's back-to-back championship run in Seasons 76 and 77.

After two straight bridesmaids' finishes in University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) women's volleyball in Seasons 78 and 79, the Lady Eagles will scramble to fill the void left by star setter Jia Morado, Gizelle Tan, and Morente.
