(CNN Philippines, October 14) — Barangay Ginebra got off to a great start against the Meralco Bolts, 102-87, in Game 1 of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors’ Cup Finals at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena City on Friday evening.

Import Justin Brownlee paced the Gin Kings with 32 points and 19 rebounds, while Japeth Aguilar and Greg Slaughter added 15 and 14 markers, respectively.

A late flurry in the first quarter saw Ginebra take a 29-18 advantage into the second frame.

Ginebra continued their hot start and increased their lead to 49-35 before the halftime break.

Meralco made a push and finally whittled down the deficit to single digit, 65-57, through a Cliff Hodge bucket at the 3:58 mark of the third frame.

The Bolts continued to pressure the opposition and went into the last period trailing only six points.

But after outscoring Ginebra, 36-28, in the third quarter, Meralco went cold in the fourth quarter.

The Gin Kings extended their advantage to as much as 96-75 in the final period, and held the Bolts to only 16 points in the last period.

Allen Durham led Meralco with 27 points.

Game 2 of the best-of-seven series takes place on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
