Pacquiao (59-7-2) is coming off a stunning defeat to Jeff Horn last July in Australia, where he lost his WBO welterweight title. McGregor, meanwhile, suffered a 10th round technical knockout in his boxing debut to the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. in August.

"Respect to McGregor for taking a chance but congrats to Floyd on #50," tweeted Pacquiao after Mayweather's victory.

Pacquiao also bowed down to Mayweather in 2015 suffering a unanimous decision setback in the fight dubbed as the "Fight of the Century."
