Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 7) — Despite the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles' best efforts, the National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs managed to assert their dominance on the court.

NU won against Ateneo in a thrilling five-set match on Wednesday, 25-19, 25-19, 20-25, 12-25, 15-7, at The Arena in San Juan.

This marks the Lady Eagles' second straight loss for the season, after bowing down to the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws on Sunday in another gruelling five-set match.

Lady Bulldogs' star skipper Jaja Santiago exploded with 26 points, followed by setter Jasmine Nabor with 11 markers, and middle block Risa Sato with 8.

The offense of Ateneo, meanwhile, was more distributed, with hitters Jhoanna Maraguinot, Kat Tolentino, and Pauline Gaston contributing 16, 12, and 10 points, respectively.

With the win, the Babes Castillo-mentored crew stepped up to a 2-0 standing, while the Katipunan-based squad slid to 0-2.

NU will try to improve their winning streak against the University of the East Lady Warriors, while the Ateneo hopes to break its losing skid against the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses, both on February 11 at The Arena.
