Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 14) — Defending champions the La Salle Lady Spikers saw off the challenge of the Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws in five sets, 25-22, 25-17, 24-26, 23-25, 15-7, at the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.

Kim Kianna Dy and Majoy Baron paced La Salle with 18 and 16 points, respectively, while Bernadeth Pons put up a game high 21 markers for the Lady Tamaraws.

After claiming the first two sets, the Lady Spikers looked like they were set to put away the Morayta-based team easily.

But a valiant stand from the Lady Tamaraws saw them climb from 24-22 down to extend the contest further.

FEU continued to ride their momentum, and took an early 8-3 advantage in the fourth frame.

La Salle could not stop FEU from forcing a decisive fifth set, only coming as close as 23-25.

After starting the fifth frame tied at 5-5, the Lady Spikers started to take over the contest to build a 9-5 advantage.

The defending champions proceeded to only allow the Lady Tamaraws two more points, as they wrapped up what turned out to be a comfortable final set.

La Salle's next assignment is a showdown with the undefeated NU Lady Bulldogs on Sunday at the same venue.
