Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 23) — Barangay Ginebra San Miguel bucked the absence of several key players to register a hard-earned victory over the San Miguel Beermen.

Aljon Mariano delivered clutch baskets in the fourth quarter as the Gin Kings came out on top 110-102 on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Mariano finished with 20 points and seven rebounds for Ginebra, while import Justin Brownlee was his usual self delivering a near triple-double of 29 markers, 19 boards and seven assists.

Kevin Ferrer's three-point play allowed Ginebra to establish a 79-70 lead early in the fourth quarter. But back-to-back baskets from Christian Standhardinger and Arwind Santos inside the seven-minute mark cut the lead of Ginebra to just three.

The Gin Kings denied San Miguel's comeback attempt as Mariano's driving layup made the count 99-88 with just under three minutes left to play.

Standhardinger paced the Beermen with his 25 points and 11 rebounds. While Santos added 22 markers and eight boards.

Barangay Ginebra improved to a 4-1 record, while San Miguel dropped their second game in four outings.
