Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 11) — The Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws strengthened their semifinals bid after beating the National University (NU) Bulldogs, 79-74, Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Arvin Tolentino and Ken Tuffin combined for 31 points for the Tamaraws.
It was a close affair in the early part the contest until FEU took command in the second quarter onwards.
The Bulldogs had few attempts to trim the deficit significantly, but the Tamaraws kept them at bay in the payoff period.
NU's John Lloyd Clemente had a memorable outing as he registered 38 points — the most scored by any player so far this season.
FEU is now tied with University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons at the fourth spot with a 7-6 win-loss slate.
On the other hand, the Bulldogs absorbed their 10th setback in the tournament.
The Tamaraws will end their elimination round campaign against the Adamson University Soaring Falcons on November 18, while NU battles University of the East Red Warriors on the same day.
