Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 8) — The budget for the Philippines' hosting of the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games is now set at ₱6 billion.

President Rodrigo Duterte has approved to allocate ₱1 billion more to the current ₱5 billion fund, the camp of Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) Chairperson Alan Peter Cayetano confirmed to CNN Philippines Wednesday.

Lawmakers earlier this year slashed the proposed ₱7.5 billion budget for the country’s hosting of the regional meet in November.

Cayetano’s camp also confirmed the chief executive has issued a directive during Monday night’s Cabinet meeting to release the SEA Games hosting fund.

The 2019 SEA Games, which will feature a record 56 sports, will happen from November 30 to December 10.

The country wrapped up the 2017 edition of the contest at sixth place with 24 golds, 33 silvers and 64 bronzes.
