Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 20) — The holiday rush is expected to congest roads and worsen traffic in Philippines as Christmas draws near.

In a report Wednesday, traffic navigation app Waze predicted December 22, Friday, as the 'worst day to drive this Christmas' in the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore.

The app also claimed that on Sunday, December 24, the worst time to drive in the Philippines will be 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., while on Christmas Day heavy traffic is expected at 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

It also recommended to avoid roads between 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, December 31, which is New Year's Eve.

Waze collected data from drivers in 2016, using it as basis for their prediction.

The app also claimed Naga will have the worst increase in traffic during the holidays, at 2.7 times its normal volume.

Other key cities that would have the largest increase in traffic volume include Angeles, Bacolod, Batangas, Iligan, Iloilo City, Cagayan de Oro, Davao City, General Santos and Zamboanga City.

The Philippines also ranked as one of the countries with the slowest drivers. Waze used the a graph showing how fast drivers from various countries can get to the North Pole, saying that Filipino drivers take eight more days to arrive compared to drivers from around the world.

The app formerly tagged the Philippines as the worst place to drive in for the second time in a row this 2017.

The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is accepting 300 more traffic enforcers placed in various parts of Metro Manila to help ease holiday traffic.

Metro Manila is estimated to have about 2.4 million vehicles, with major thoroughfare EDSA holding 1,000 more than its original carrying capacity per lane every hour.
