Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 19) — San Miguel Corporation rolled out a program providing company employees an alternative mode of transportation through bicycles.

In a statement on Monday, SMC said this is still part of its efforts to ensure health safety and provide convenience to its people amid travel restrictions in the country.

Through the program, employees can choose between two variants of bicycles that cost P2,080 and P3,000, each. Bulk of the cost was shouldered by the company, and employees can pay for 12 months without interest, it said.

SMC president and COO Ramon Ang said this was implemented due to an increased demand for bicycles among their employees as the company gradually requires more of its workforce to return to work to be able to operate.

“Right now, our transportation system is still limited, and we see that more of our employees are biking to work. So we thought to provide them new bicycles,” he said.

Ang said an initial 1,500 units were purchased, but were immediately taken. More units are expected to be available for the next batch, he added.

Aside from this, he said a special COVID-19 transportation loan was also launched to provide more options for company workers.
