Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 12) — After going to Singapore for medical treatment, media mogul Kris Aquino shared her diagnosis on social media.

"I now know I have Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria, and yes, mine is an autoimmune disease," Aquino said on Instagram Thursday.

Aquino left the country late September for medical treatment, leaving an asset management case at the hands of her lawyers. She said she lost weight drastically, shedding 15 pounds in a month, worrying her children.

"Kuya was anxious & confused. Bimb knew Selena [Gomez]'s journey. It was heartbreaking to see my 11 year old crying inconsolable tears and pleading, 'please don't leave me mama'," Aquino said on Facebook, referring to her two sons Joshua and James "Bimby" Aquino.

Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria, which manifests as allergy-like symptoms on the skin, would require constant medication and maintenance. An autoimmune disease, it's the result of the body's immune system attacking healthy cells.

Aquino shared how the disease manifested on her skin on social media through another Instagram post:

Women are more prone to autoimmune diseases than men. Several celebrities have come out about their struggle with autoimmune diseases, including Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid, Toni Braxton, Wendy Williams and Venus Williams.
