Samantha Lo reveals she did not have the proper transit visa when she left the country on October 9 (FILE PHOTO)

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 20) — With her whereabouts unknown to the public for the past few days, Samantha Lo, the country’s fourth delegate to the Miss Grand International pageant, has broken her silence.

Lo revealed on Saturday that she has finally arrived in Venezuela where the grand beauty competition will take place, after encountering travel issues. Venezuelan jeweler George Wittels said on October 15 Lo was held up in Paris during her stopover and was sent back to the Philippines. She was unable to attend the pre-coronation events.

“Despite what happened last week and the trauma that came with it, I have moved forward and pursued this journey knowing that I did not intentionally commit any of the acts that have been unfairly attributed to me,” Lo said on Instagram.

The 26-year-old beauty queen explained that she did not have the right transit visa when she left the Philippines on October 9. The Foreign Affairs Department also disclosed that Lo had no passport records from the agency.

“But yes, my local organizer, who handled my travel preparations, failed to equip me with the proper transit visa that may have enabled me to complete my earlier trip to this host country,” she added.

Lo said it was her family, not her organizer, and fellow Filipinos abroad who helped arrange her release from detention.

However, despite these incidents, Lo will continue to represent the country in the upcoming competition on Friday.

“It is not easy for me to do this - I still struggle with the fear and the trauma of recent days - but I know there is a bigger picture here and I will not let such fear silence me or deter me from the grand task ahead,” Lo said.

Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray also offered words of encouragement to her fellow beauty queen.

“Slay them Kweeeeeeeen 💛 such an inspiration 🙌 rise above all! And represent our country with pride!” Gray commented on Lo’s Instagram post.
