Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 19) — Young actress Jane de Leon thought she was invited to do another audition to play fictional Filipino heroine Darna, but what she didn't know was her career — and possibly her life — would change on that fateful day.

In the video posted by film production company Star Cinema, the 20-year-old actress met with the executives of ABS-CBN on July 15 for a callback to play Darna in the highly-anticipated film. She was one of the over 200 women who auditioned for the role nationwide.

ABS-CBN Films' managing director Olivia Lamasan asked her if she's up to the challenge and if she's ready to take the stone that will turn her from ordinary girl Narda into Darna, superhero extrordinaire.

"So, are you ready for the responsibility, Jane? Tinatanggap mo na ba ang bato? Kaya mo bang tanggapin ang bato?" Lamasan asked.

[Translation: Are you accepting the stone? Can you accept the powers?]

The actress was stunned for a minute, then responded, "Yes po. Oh my god. Naiiyak ako (I feel like crying)."

She went around the room full of bigwigs, who congratulated her and expressed confidence that she can give justice to the superhero created by writer Mars Ravelo.

ABS-CBN chief content officer Charo Santos-Concio told de Leon her life will change with the new role given to her. The actress has appeared in several hit television series of ABS-CBN such as "La Luna Sangre" and "Halik." She was also a member of girl group "Girtrends," a mainstay in noontime show "It's Showtime."

"Today is the beginning of the start of the rest of your life," Santos-Concio said.

De Leon was reminded to stay committed and focused because becoming Darna is a huge responsibility.

She was asked how committed she is to take on the gargantuan role.

"100 percent po talaga. I can surrender all for her, for that character po. 'Yung desire pati 'yung heart ko po talaga nadoon talaga kay Darna," de Leon said.

She now joins the likes of Gina Pareno, Gina Alajar, Vilma Santos, Sharon Cuneta, Regine Velasquez, Angel Locsin, and Marian Rivera, the other actresses who have played Darna.
