Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 24)— Drama flick “Mindanao” has been selected as the Philippines’ official entry to the 93rd Academy Awards’ International Feature Film category, the Film Academy of the Philippines announced on Tuesday.

Directed by Brillante Mendoza and top-billed by Judy Ann Santos and Allen Dizon, the 2019 film tells the story of a mother caring for her cancer-stricken daughter while her husband is out on the battlefield.

The movie dominated the 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival, bagging the top awards including Best Picture, Best Actor (Dizon), and Best Actress (Santos), among others.

The next Oscars ceremony will be held on April 25, 2021.
