OPM singers remake SEA Games anthem to promote hope, healing amid COVID-19 crisis

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 26) – Several Original Pilipino Music artists lent their voices in singing "We Heal As One," a remake version of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games anthem “We Win As One.”

National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab, who composed and arranged the original song performed by Lea Salonga, head the rendition of the new version which aims to uplift the Filipinos’ spirits in the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

Handog namin itong kantang ‘to para sa lahat ng Pilipino," said Cayabyab at the start of the music video. "Tayo na po’t magkaisa at magtulungan para malagpasan po natin ang pagsubok na ito.

(Translation: We dedicate this song to all Filipinos. Let’s unite and work together to overcome this trial.)

Among those who lent their voices in "We Heal As One" are Salonga, Ogie Alcasid, Martin Nievera, Pops Fernandez, Sarah Geronimo, Bamboo, Lani Misalucha, Gary Valenciano, Apl de Ap of the Black Eyed Peas, Robert Sena, Isay Alvarez, and Menchu Lauchengco.

Inigo Pascual, Julie Anne San Jose, Jed Madela, Mark Bautista, Rita Daniela, Paolo Valenciano, KZ Tandingan, Aicelle Santos, Michael Williams, Alden Richards, Ken Chan, and Christian Bautista also participated in the collaboration.

Cayabyab is also spearheading Bayanihan Musikahan, an online fundraising concert series for the vulnerable sector--the urban poor communities in Metro Manila-- during the COVID-19 crisis.

As of 5 p.m. Thursday, the initiative raised about P14.78 million as the online concert series entered its fourth day, with several OPM artists also performing.

The Philippines has confirmed 707 cases of COVID-19, along with 45 deaths and 28 recoveries. Due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases, Luzon has been put in enhanced community quarantine that will last until April 13.
