Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 15) – Megastar Sharon Cuneta appealed on Friday to increase the mass testing efforts amid the continuing spike in COVID-19 confirmed cases in the country.

“It is really what we lack and is really I think what slows us down in flattening the curve,” said Cuneta in an interview with CNN Philippines’ Rico Hizon.

The actress-singer added the slow mass testing activities in the country give her apprehensions on whether to return to work in doing show tapings in her mother television network.

“The virus is not leaving, it’s still gonna be around. Without testing, we won’t know who amongst everyone in that huge station with thousands of employees is sick or not,” said Cuneta.

Cuneta is a talent of ABS-CBN Corporation, whose bid for a temporary franchise is still pending in the House of Representatives.

Despite her worries in the COVID-19 mass testing efforts in the country, Cuneta expressed her joy of raising ₱2.3 million in her online Mother’s Day concert last Sunday.

She said the proceeds will be used to buy personal protective equipment for frontliners and to help families in the vulnerable sector who are not getting enough financial support during the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine.

“Donations haven’t stopped coming in really. I think we’ve raised more than we have since that night and I’m very grateful,” said Cuneta.

The Megastar urged everyone to stay strong in facing the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with the onslaught of typhoon Ambo in the country.

“We are gifted with these disasters because we are a very strong race. I think God is well aware of that. We are very strong and we laugh at our problems,” she added.
