Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 22)  This year's Miss Earth Pageant has taken off in a virtual set up, the organizers announced on Tuesday.

The environmental advocacy-based pageant, which is also celebrating its 20th year, will have its finale aired via television and social media on Nov. 29.

“We decided not to skip this year so we can continue with our mission to raise awareness on the state of the environment,” said Lorraine Schuck, executive vice-president and Miss Earth co-founder, in a statement.

Some pre-pageant activities were also launched on Monday including talks on environmental issues as well as events to introduce the candidates and their background.

Miss Earth-Philippines Roxanne Baeyens, who was crowned in July, will represent the country in the international pageant.

"My heart couldn't be more grateful with the voices given to us as Eco Angels - how it could pave the way to encourage others to make sustainable choices and walk lightly on Earth," Baeyens said in a post.
