Alternative Development or Alternatives to Development?

On Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., the Ateneo de Manila University Department of Sociology and Anthropology will be holding a series of talks centered on the difficult questions surrounding city-wide development, particularly in aiding the urban poor. Resource speakers Anna Karaos and Melissa Navarra will be discussing the different triumphs and losses that come with alternative development, and proposing new ways to genuinely include and empower urban informal settlers.

Pamana Talks with Albert Vincent Barretto

The town of Gumaca, Quezon, noted for its Spanish-style architectural landmarks, carries a wealth of cultural historical value that could possibly be undercut by plans of modernization. Museo ng Gumaca curator Albert Vincent Barretto will be speaking about the history of the town, the importance of conserving these landmarks. He will also be showing the museum’s vast collection of art and artifacts.

The talk will be held this Friday, Oct. 16, 2020, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. You can pre-register for the webinar here. Grupo Kalinangan will also be accepting donations for Ayuda Para sa Pamana, an initiative dedicated to helping museums and cultural workers affected by the COVID-19 lockdown.

“Pathfinder” by Allan Balisi

Visual artist Allan Balisi will be exhibiting his latest collection of vibrant, emotional oil paintings in Pablo Gallery until Nov. 21, 2020. You can physically view the works in the gallery’s Taguig outpost, while some select pieces have been posted on his blog alongside some of his archival works.

Wednesday Instagram Live DJ Set and Giveaway

Beloved local streetwear brand Wednesday will be teaming up with doze through an Instagram Live takeover DJ set, accompanied by a giveaway promo, on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2020, starting at 4 p.m.

Run to the Sun

Transit Records returns with the second weekend of their Run to the Sun event series on Friday, October 16, 2020. Starting at 7:30 p.m., you can tune into energetic House, Techno, and Electronic sets from resident DJs Baby Ikea, Duality, Larry Spicer, and Trust.
