Metro Manila (CNN Philippines Life, February 22) — This week: a week-long affordable art fair, two lectures about important points in Philippine history, an online concert of French love songs, and a conversation about spaces in the post-pandemic world.
Art in the Park 2021
What used to be a weekend of affordable art is now an eight-day “treasure hunt” for works priced under ₱50,000.
New pieces will be uploaded every day on artinthepark.ph until Feb. 28. This year’s fair has 60 exhibitors and 6,000 pieces that await both experienced and new collectors of Philippine art.
To complement the fair, there are also educational programs online such as features on the practice of Henrielle Pagkaliwangan and Yvonne Quisumbing.

“Magellan: A Tragic Hero”
The National Quincentennial Committee has a series of activities leading up to the commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the Victory at Mactan on 27 April 2021. On Feb. 24, noted historian Dr. Danilo Gerona will deliver a lecture “Magellan: A Tragic Hero.” The event is free.

Saan Ka Lulugar? | Conversations on Spaces in a Post-Pandemic World
Saan Ka Lulugar is a four-part series on the role of architecture in our post-pandemic reality. The event is composed of webinars, live stream interactions, and a design competition.

Je t’aime: A Concert of French Love Songs
The Embassy of France to the Philippines and Micronesia, Alliance française de Manille and French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the Philippines are celebrating Love Month with “Je t’aime: An Online Concert of French Love Songs” on Feb. 25, featuring the Project 201 Jazz Quartet and jazz singer Faye Yupano.
The event will be live streamed on the French Embassy Facebook page starting at 8 p.m.

Intramuros Learning Sessions: 1945 Battle of Manila: Humanity Amidst the Carnage
The Battle of Manila in 1945 has been called the worst urban battle in the Pacific War. It spanned 29 days and saw the deaths of 100,000 non-combatant civilians in the hands of Japanese forces.
To commemorate the Battle of Manila, Intramuros will be hosting a learning session on Feb. 27 with guest speakers Desiree Benipayo and Ricardo Jose. The event is free.
