CNN Philippines hailed news website of the year in 2017 UmalohokJuan awards

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — CNN Philippines' website reaped its first award on Thursday, as the "online news website of the year" at the 2017 UmalohokJuan Awards.

Organized by the Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Manila, the UmalohoKJuan Awards is now on its fourth year of giving annual recognition for works, advocacies, and public service by media and news agencies, corporate, government and non-government organizations, and mass communications personalities.

The organizers said the winners were chosen and voted upon by the Lycean community.

“CNN Philippines is relatively new in the industry. This award means so much to us,” Fiona Nicolas, senior producer of CNN Philippines Digital said in receiving the award.

“Rest assured that we’ll strive more, work harder, to give you balanced, honest, and credible reporting,” she added.

"UmalohokJuan" is derived from “umalohokan,” referring to the olden town crier who uses a tambuli to announce information to villagers, and “Juan,” an acronym for justice, unity, ascendancy, and nationalism -- core values and ideals of the school's founder, former Philippine President Jose P. Laurel.

For the other categories, ABS-CBN’s Atom Araullo bagged the tv news anchor of the year, Karen Davila as the radio news personality of the year, and TV Patrol as the best news program of the year.

While GMA 7’s "Eat Bulaga" bagged the best entertainment program, and "Kapuso mo, Jessica Soho" as the best magazine show.

Philippine Daily Inquirer won the best editorial content of the year, while Manila Bulletin bagged the best newspaper of the year.

Love Radio 90.7 won as the best FM radio station of the year.
