Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 27) — The daughter of losing U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Clinton slammed President Rodrigo Duterte on social media, calling him a "murderous thug."

In a tweet on Saturday, Chelsea Clinton denounced Duterte for uttering a rape joke while giving a pep talk to soldiers on May 26. The President was in Iligan City, meeting deployed and wounded soldiers sent to fight the Maute group in Marawi City, some 40 kilometers away.

Duterte said he would hold himself responsible for whatever happened during the course of martial law in Mindanao, which he declared on May 23 following clashes in Marawi that have resulted in the deaths of 41 from the Maute group, 11 soldiers, and two policemen.

"Ako na ang magpakulong sa inyo," Duterte said. "'Pag naka-rape ka ng tatlo, aminin ko na akin 'yun. 'Pag nag-asawa ka ng pang-apat, t*** i** bugbugin ka."

[Translation: I will go to jail for you. If you rape three people, I will admit that I did it. If you get a fourth wife, son of a w***e, I will punch you.]

'No regard for human rights'

Clinton, who is vice chairman of her parents’ Clinton Foundation, also slammed Duterte's controversial war on drugs, which has resulted in more than 2,500 deaths based on police figures. since the drug campaign began in July 2016. International rights groups claim 9,000 deaths, though they have not backed up the claims with proof that these were extrajudicial killings.

Clinton’s father, Bill, a two-term U.S. President, was infamously known for the political sex scandal in which he had a 22-year-old White House intern, Monica Lewinsky, perform oral sex on him. He was also accused of raping a woman while he was campaigning for governor of Arkansas in 1978.

Hillary Clinton, as a young lawyer, was known to have represented a defendant in a rape case filed by a 12-year-old girl. Hillary Clinton has also been criticized by human rights groups for her support of strongmen in countries such as Egypt, Morocco, Uzbekistan, and Bahrain, which were accused of persecuting opposition.

Netizens in the Philippines were quick to call out the former presidential daughter on her tweet despite her parents' own faults.

"Wow, although she is not her parents she should refrain from criticizing people or least a government leader when she couldnt do it to her father or parents. Murderous thug? USA is the biggest murderous thug in the world and yet she remained quiet about this. Funny how people forget their own flaws when they trying to look saint by calling out others."

"Juanita Broaddrick, Paula Jones, Kathleen Willey these are the women that your father have sexually offended. so what are you saying?"
