Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 11) — Former President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III was at a hospital's intensive care unit for his safety, but was later transfered to a regular room, his spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday.

"His placement in the ICU was a recommendation as it is easier to secure physically and also to limit visitors," spokesperson Abi Valte said in a text message.

She did not indicate when he was brought to the ICU, but said he was moved to a regular room on Tuesday.

Aquino's camp on Monday confirmed he was at the Makati Medical Center for a scheduled check-up and routine procedure, debunking reports that he was set to undergo a heart procedure.

"Nagbiro pa na baka daw kaya heart procedure ang balita kasi heartbroken siya. He’s alright and in high spirits, and thanks everyone for their concern," she said.

This isn't the first time the health of the 59-year-old Aquino was talked about in the public. He was absent during the commemoration of the 36th death anniversary of his father, Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, in August. His sister, Kris, hinted he is going through something.
