Pandacan, Manila fire: 300 families homeless days before New Year

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 28) — Around 300 families will welcome the New Year without their homes as fire engulfed a residential area in Pandacan, Manila Saturday morning.

Initial investigation showed that the blaze started shortly before 10 a.m. inside the kitchen of a two-storey house within the vicinity of the Pandacan oil depot. One person was reported injured.

The fire reached fifth alarm and was declared under control as of 11:57 a.m.

Residents were evacuated to a nearby vacant lot and at the Sto. Niño Parish Church.

Authorities are still determining the cause of the fire while initial damage to property was estimated at ₱2 million.

Meanwhile, another fire hit a residential area in Sto. Niño, Pasay City at 12:40 p.m., reaching fourth alarm at around 1:00 p.m.
