Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 22) — Members of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) gathered Wednesday for a thanksgiving dinner in San Juan City, following the party's successful campaign in the May 13 midterm polls.

PDP-Laban President and reelected Senator Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel, who said that the party now controls 80 seats in Congress after the elections, called for the event.

Pimentel said PDP-Laban's priority legislation in the incoming 18th Congress will be the tax reform, shift to a federal system of government, and reimposition of death penalty.

Among the ruling party's members who attended the gathering were senators-elect Rondald 'Bato" dela Rosa and Francis Tolentino.

PDP-Laban's presumed bets for the House speakership race were also in attendance.

Three members of the ruling party are being eyed to replace former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who is now on her third and last term as Pampanga 2nd District representative. They are Marinduque Representative Lord Allan Jay Velasco, Pampanga Representative Dong Gonzales, and Davao del Norte 1st District Representative-elect Pantaleon Alvarez, who had held the position. Alvarez became Speaker in 2016, but was replaced by Arroyo in July last year during President Rodrigo Duterte's State of the Nation Address.

Pimentel earlier warned that PDP-Laban members who don't abide by the decision will be kicked out.

"We will have rules on how to choose, kung sino mapili (on whom to will be chosen). Kung merong magrerebelde (If some members will not follow), we have to kick them out of the party," Pimentel said.
