Heavy downpour causes floods in portions of Metro Manila

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 8) — Heavy rainfall hit Metro Manila Wednesday afternoon, causing floods in some areas.

In a Facebook post, the Quezon City Public Affairs Department said the following areas had knee-deep flood as of 7:40 pm:

- Banawe corner Retiro

- Retiro corner Biak na Bato

- Biak na Bato corner Samat

- Retiro corner Sto. Domingo

- Calamba corner Sto. Domingo

The rainfall also flooded some portions of EDSA, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority:

- Ortigas Service Road southbound (gutter-deep)

- Shaw tunnel northbound (gutter-deep)

- Aurora tunnel northbound (gutter-deep)

- Farmers Loading Bay northbound (gutter-deep)

- Ayala after flyover northbound (gutter-deep)

- Whiteplains Gate 4 northbound (knee-deep). This was not passable to all kinds of vehicle.

Some students of the University of Santo Tomas in España, Manila were stranded inside the campus following the downpour, according to the school's publication The Varsitarian.

Weather bureau PAGASA earlier today issued a thunderstorm advisory for Metro Manila and the provinces of Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Bataan, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas, Zambales, Bulacan, Laguna, Rizal, and Quezon.

It said these areas would experience heavy to intense rainshower with lightning and strong winds that may last for two hours.

"All are advised to take precautionary measures against the impacts associated with these hazards which include flash floods and landslides," the PAGASA said.
