Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 27) — Two detainees of the Quezon City Jail managed to escape Saturday morning after the metro-wide earthquake drill.

According to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Mamerto Valenzuela and Dennis Valdez, managed to escape unnoticed by jail officials around 4:40 a.m.

Valenzuela is charged with rape, while Valdez is charged with possession of dangerous drugs.

The BJMP has yet to give an update on efforts to return the detainees to prison.

The Metro Manila Shake Drill happened at 4 a.m. Saturday and was meant to test the disaster preparedness, response plans and protocols of the 17 local government units' disaster offices in case a large earthquake happens at night.
