Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 31) — Manila City Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso has signed an ordinance giving out allowances to qualified students of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) and Universidad de Manila (UdM), city officials said Wednesday.

The monthly allowance worth ₱1,000 is given to enrolled students who are residents and registered voters of the city with good academic standing, according to the directive signed Monday. If the student is not yet of legal age to be a voter, his or her parent or legal guardian should be a registered voter.

The funding for the monthly allowance will be appropriated from the city's annual budget.

Students who are dismissed before the end of the school year must immediately return the ATM card where the monthly stipend is deposited. Those who fail to do so will face appropriate charges.
