Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 29) — Two inmates died after a riot broke out between rival groups at the Manila City Jail Sunday.

Police have identified the fatalities as Lito Escaya and Alvin Royo, both members of the Sigue Sigue Sputnik (SSS) gang.

Police said members of the Batang City Jail and Sigue Sigue Sputnik gangs were involved in a “commotion” in the city jail at 6:28 a.m. where 30 people were injured.

Those injured were immediately brought to the infirmary for treatment, but nine were later transferred to the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center because of their injuries — with some described as "critical."
