Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 3) — The first 10-kilometer segment of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) from the Mamplasan Barrier to Santa-Rosa-Tagaytay Interchange will open in October, the Public Works department said Tuesday.

The first segment will pass through the Laguna Technopark interchange and the Laguna Boulevard Interchange.

“Opening this first segment will be beneficial to the growing industrial, commercial and real estate centers of this part of the Southern Tagalog Region. About 10,000 cars are forecasted to be served, eventually decongesting Governor’s Drive, Aguinaldo Highway, and Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road,” Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said in a statement.

Villar said they are addressing right of way issues to be able to open the entire stretch of the 45-kilometer expressway in early 2022.

He expects CALAX to cut down travel time from Cavite to Laguna from two hours to just 45 minutes. Around 50,000 cars are expected to benefit from the expressway.

Private concessionaire MPCALA Holdings, a unit of Metro Pacific Investments Corp., said they will install automatic license plate recognition systems that will enable barrier-less entry, speed cameras and high-definition CCTV cameras.
