Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 30) — Some airlines have cancelled flights to several Chinese cities amid a continued rise in reported cases of infection from the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in China and a number of other countries, including the Philippines.

Philippine Airlines (PAL) said in a statement on Thursday charter flights between Kalibo, Aklan and Nanjing, Hangzhou, and Pudong Shanghai in China have been suspended. PAL said this is because Chinese authorities have restricted outbound travel from the mainland.

However, PAL added that they will maintain their scheduled flights between Manila and Beijing, Pudong Shanghai, Guangzhou, Jinjiang, Xiamen, Hong Kong and Macau.

Cebu Pacific also told CNN Philippines that they have cancelled flights between Kalibo and China. Kalibo has direct flights to Wuhan — the Chinese city where the 2019-nCoV outbreak originated.

Eric Apolonio of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines also said operators from Chinese airlines told him that some of their weekly and daily flights bound for Kalibo have been cancelled until February 1.
