Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 23) — Education officials have asked congressmen and senators to consider funding for the National Sports Academy during bicameral discussions.

The Budget department, apparently, did not include funding for it in the ₱4.5-trillion budget for 2021.

Education Secretary Leonor Briones expressed confidence that lawmakers will approve funding for the academy.

“Sa Senate naman ang laki ng simpatya ng mga senador kasi sila mga practitioners sila. Alam nila ang ating hope,” she said.

In June, President Rodrigo Duterte signed a law creating the National Sports Academy that will carry out a special sports curriculum for high school students.

The main campus will be at the existing new Clark city sports complex in Tarlac.

“It is now in the hands of Congress but DepEd did its part kasi ginawa na namin yung pag endorse at pag request ng budget,” said Education Undersecretary Anna Sevilla.
