Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 17) – Six more police personnel have contracted the coronavirus disease, bringing the total number of infected cops to 65.

The Philippine National Police in a statement said Friday that the new cases were all assigned in Metro Manila – four policemen and two female personnel aged 29 to 47.

Forty of the infected police personnel are admitted in hospitals, the PNP said, 14 are under home quarantine, while three have died and eight have recovered.

A total of 501 police personnel are considered suspect cases while 51 others are awaiting the results of their coronavirus test.

Earlier, 557 personnel suspected of coronavirus infection have completed home quarantine.

The police and military are manning checkpoints across Luzon amid the enhanced community quarantine to contain the spread of COVID-19. Most residents are ordered to stay home, except those working in sectors providing basic and essential services.

The PNP has apprehended 115,000 people nationwide for violating lockdown measures, including curfew and social distancing guidelines.

Nationwide, the number of COVID-19 cases has risen to 5,660, with 362 deaths and 435 recoveries.
