Top delivery companies assure efficient services amid increase in demand during quarantine

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 29) – Two top delivery companies assured on Wednesday they can continue to provide efficient services despite the increase in demand of orders during the COVID-19 quarantine.

Atty. Nicka Hosaka-Maningat, spokesperson of Grab Philippines, said the company employed their four-wheeled transport drivers to add to the number of motorcycle drivers delivering goods to customers.

Maningat said the transport network vehicle drivers must have their own motorcycles or bikes and are licensed to drive such vehicles before they are allowed to be a Grab motorcycle delivery rider.

[Translation: To provide income to our drivers who do not have sources of money now or who need to provide for their families, they agreed to drive or provide delivery services if they have a motorcycle or bike and if they are qualified to drive and provide delivery services.]

Dannah Majarocon, managing director of Lalamove, revealed that they established a fully virtual onboarding process to add more partner drivers and meet the growing demand for delivery of goods.

[Translation: They are more motivated to get more orders so that they can help more people.]

Both online delivery companies are implementing a cashless and contactless delivery to their customers.

Maningat said they are encouraging their customers to pay via their digital wallet platform GrabPay. She added that Grab riders must leave their deliveries at the door to minimize physical contact.

Meanwhile, Lalamove has released a health and wellness subsidy for its drivers to help them buy vitamins, medicines, alcohol, and other health-related goods for their protection against COVID-19, according to Marajocon.

She also said that Lalamove has ordered its drivers to stay at home when they don’t have an active delivery. This is in contrast with the riders’ norm before the pandemic wherein they would congregate in one place to wait for delivery.

Kung wala kang active delivery, siya ay ineexpect na nasa bahay," Marajocon said. "Wala kang makikita na Lalamove driver na naka-abang sa kalye or nagko-congregate sa parking lot para magabang ng order."

[Translation: If there is no active delivery, the Lalamove driver is expected to be home. You will not find a Lalamove driver waiting in the street or congregating in the parking lot just to wait for a delivery.]

The two delivery companies also assured that their drivers have been applied to the Rapid Pass program of the Department of Trade and Industry and Department of Information and Communications Technology.

Their application to the Rapid Pass, a system where accredited frontliners and other essential personnel can simply flash their QR codes in checkpoints, will ensure more unhampered delivery of essential goods for their customers.

Essential goods include foods, groceries, toiletries, medicines, and other health-related items. Among those prohibited for delivery are alcoholic products, due to the liquor ban implemented in the country.

“Based from what the government said, cargoes should remain unhampered," said Marajocon. "The presence of company IDs should suffice as they go about with their delivery."
