Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 23)— Heads up, commuters!

The Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Line 3 announced Wednesday it will halt operations on four select weekends from July to September to give way for rail replacement works.

The suspended weekend operations will cover the following dates: July 4-5, August 8-9, August 21-23, and September 12-13.

Rehabilitation works for the said timeline will include turnout replacements, rail destressing, rerailing, and resurfacing, among others, the MRT management said.

The rail replacement— expected to wrap up by September— is seen to gradually increase MRT-3’s operating speed to up to 60 kilometers per hour by December. The headway or interval between trains is also expected to decrease to 3.5 minutes once the project is completed.

Commuters who will be affected by the suspended weekend operations may avail of transport agencies' bus augmentation program, MRT said.

The major train line earlier resumed operations at limited capacity, in light of the easing of quarantine restrictions in the capital region.
