Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 7) - The Bureau of Customs warned the public of scammers pretending to be employees of the agency and asking payment for the release of parcels or packages through fake emails and websites.

“The BOC warns the public to refrain from further communicating with such individuals as these are organized scammers,” said the bureau in a statement on Friday.

The warning came after reports of scammers using fake emails and website under the name of bureau requesting clearance fee.

“As the BOC continue to promote and utilize online systems, the public is reminded to remain vigilant against criminals who take advantage of technology to commit unscrupulous acts,” it added.

It added that it is coordinating with the National Bureau of Investigation to take down the fake accounts.

BOC said that http://customs.gov.ph and boc.cares@customs.gov.ph are the official website and email address, respectively, of the agency.
