Comelec reschedules party-list raffle to allow some groups to seek SC help

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 9) -- The Commission on Elections has postponed the raffle of party-lists, which would determine the order of their appearance on the ballot for the 2022 polls, to give some groups with pending issues time to go to the Supreme Court.

The raffle, originally slated for Dec. 10, was rescheduled to Dec. 14.

In an advisory on Thursday, the Comelec said it moved the date so party-list groups, organizations and coalitions “with pending incidents” may have the opportunity to secure a status quo ante order from the high court.

Based on a Comelec resolution released last week, 165 party-list groups, including 13 with pending resolutions, are eligible to participate in the raffle. A total of 107 applications, meanwhile, have been rejected for party-list registration.

To impose a status quo ante order would mean to maintain the situation as it existed before the Comelec issued the resolution.

According to the commission, a final listing of the party-list groups shall be released within 15 days after the conduct of the raffle.
